MemberBeen looking at the Herz P1 Smart Scale for a while now, but I’m not sold on the whole body composition thing. I get that it’s not medical grade, but does the app actually show progress over time in a way that’s useful? Or am I just going to get a bunch of numbers that don’t really tell me anything?

MemberI think people overthink the whole trend thing honestly. I’ve had mine for a few months and the app just shows you a graph of whatever metric you care about, which is enough for me. I mainly glance at weight and body fat and don’t stress about the rest.

MemberI was in the same boat before getting mine. I figured the body fat numbers would just be random guesses that made me feel bad about myself for no reason. Turns out, the app does make the trends pretty easy to read. You pick a metric and it shows you a line graph over weeks or months, so you can actually see if something is moving in the right direction or just bouncing around.
What I found is that the absolute numbers are whatever, but the direction matters. Like, if I weigh myself at the same time in the morning, the fat percentage trend is pretty consistent even if the daily number wobbles a bit. It was never about the exact reading for me, more about seeing if my slow changes were actually doing anything.
The one thing I would say is that you have to be patient. A week of data is basically noise. After a month you start to see something real. I also stopped caring about the smaller metrics like protein mass or whatever, but the main ones like body fat and muscle mass are fine for keeping me honest.
Not a gimmick, but also not something I would base any medical decisions on. If you just want a better picture of where you are heading, it does the job.

MemberHonestly, even if the numbers are estimates, I think the trend lines are what matter. I like that it just shows the direction things are going without me having to track it myself. Seems like it does that fine.

Owen21MemberI mean, if you’re expecting lab accuracy you’re looking at the wrong thing. But for seeing if your numbers are going up or down over a few weeks, it does the job. I mostly just check the weight and body fat graph and ignore the rest of the clutter.

SarahMParticipantI get the hesitation, but honestly the trend tracking is the one part that makes sense to me. It’s less about the exact number and more about seeing if things shift over a few weeks. I’d say if you’re consistent with when you weigh yourself, the app gives you a decent picture without being overwhelming.

Dave RunnerMemberI think people put too much stock in what those numbers mean day to day. The app has graphs and stuff but honestly I mostly just glance at the weight line and move on. If you’re the type who wants to dig into every metric it might be overwhelming.

Mar__kusMemberThe trend graphs are actually fine in the app, they don’t make you dig for them or anything. I just weigh in at the same time every morning and ignore the daily number, but the weekly line is pretty clear. It won’t tell you anything you couldn’t figure out with a normal scale and a notepad, but it does the boring part for you.

MemberI don’t think it’s a gimmick, but you do have to use it the right way. I weigh in at the same time each morning and mostly just watch the overall line, not the daily numbers. The app makes it easy enough to see that without digging around. If you can ignore the weird day-to-day jumps, it does what it’s supposed to.

MemberI’ve had mine for a few months and honestly I just look at the weight and the little trend arrow most days. The rest of the numbers are there if I want them but I don’t stress about them. If you’re the type who likes seeing the lines move over time it does that fine.

Chris MillerMemberI think if you’re the type of person who actually opens the app once in a while, the trend stuff is fine. It’s mostly the daily numbers that get noisy and easy to ignore.

MemberI’m not totally sure if the trends are the selling point or if it’s just the novelty of seeing all those numbers. I got it mostly because I was curious about the segment stuff, like whether my left arm was somehow different from my right, which sounds dumb now. But the app does keep a clean little graph for weight and body fat, and it’s kind of nice to scroll back a few months and see that things are moving in the right direction even if the daily numbers bounce around.
The one thing I’ll say is that if you skip a week, it doesn’t punish you or make the graphs look weird. It just picks up where you left off. That’s more than I expected from a scale at this price. I wouldn’t base any health decisions on the exact readings, but as a way to keep an eye on things without thinking too hard, it does the job.

MemberTrends are fine if you actually weigh in under the same conditions every day. The app plots it out clearly enough. People expect too much from a bathroom scale. It’s just there to show you a direction, not give you a medical diagnosis.

MemberI feel like people expect way too much from a bathroom scale. The trend stuff is there and it works, but the real value is just seeing the direction you’re heading over a few weeks. The extra metrics are nice to glance at but I wouldn’t overthink them.

MemberI think the trend tracking is actually the one part that makes sense to check. The daily numbers can be all over the place, but seeing the line over a few weeks gives you a much better idea of what’s happening. I mostly use it for that and ignore the rest most days.

MemberFair enough, that tracks with what I was thinking. I don’t need it to be perfect, just consistent enough to spot a real trend. Sounds like it does that without making me obsess over every single reading. Might be worth picking up after all.
