Hey all, quick question before I get one: I drive a car with a slightly textured dashboard, and I’m wondering if the windshield suction mount for the DashOne Pro will stick okay or if I need to get a separate mount for it. Anyone here using it on a surface that isn’t perfectly smooth? I saw photos of it mounted on glass only, so I’m a bit unsure. Thanks!

I wouldnt trust that suction mount on anything but glass. Textured surfaces just dont give it enough to grab onto and its gonna end up falling off at the worst time, probably when you hit a bump. Just get a separate mount for the dash or stick it on the windshield.

Suction mounts are really only reliable on smooth glass, so I wouldnt chance it on a textured dash.

I had the same worry when I got mine, mostly because my dash has that soft-touch material with a bit of grain to it. I didn’t even bother trying the suction cup on the dash. I just put it on the windshield right behind the rearview mirror and called it a day.

The suction mount seems fine on glass, though I do re-seat it every couple of months when it starts to look a little loose. I honestly think if I’d tried it on the textured area it would’ve dropped within a day or two. I’ve had other gadgets with suction mounts before and they never held on anything but smooth surfaces for me.

So my take is, keep it on the glass and you won’t have to think about it again.

I think there’s a bit of a middle ground here that nobody’s really mentioned. That suction mount is definitely happiest on glass, no argument there. But I’ve had mine on a dash that has that pebbled, slightly rough vinyl texture for about four months now, and it hasn’t moved once. The trick is just making sure the rubber part is completely clean before you press it down, and I give it a firm twist when I set it.

That said, I don’t live somewhere with extreme heat in the summer, so I can’t say how it handles baking in the sun all day. If you park outside in the middle of July, I’d probably look at a sticky pad mount instead. But for normal daily driving, mine has stayed put through some pretty rough roads. Worth a try before you buy extra stuff, at least.

I keep seeing people say textured dashboards are a no go for suction mounts, and honestly that makes sense. But one thing I would add is that the angle of the dash matters too. If it curves away sharply, even a smooth surface is going to be annoying because you can’t get the mount to sit flat enough to hold properly.

I’d grab a separate mount if I were you. I tried mine on a dash pad that had any kind of grain to it and it lasted about two days before it gave up. Glass only for me now.

I think people are overcomplicating this a bit. I have mine on the windshield and it’s fine, but if you want it on a textured dash, just get a different mount. The suction cup needs smooth glass to really grab. It’s not worth the hassle of it falling off mid-drive.

Personally I’d skip the dash and stick with the windshield. Even if it holds at first, heat and vibration will probably make it give up eventually. Textured plastic just doesn’t give that cup a clean seal, and I’d rather not find out mid-drive.

I’d say try it on the dash first before buying anything extra. I’ve seen these mounts hold up on way rougher surfaces than a little texture, and the suction cup on this one is pretty strong out of the box. If it doesn’t grab, then sure, look at other options, but I wouldn’t assume it’ll fail.

I’d probably just stick with the windshield if it were me. The dash texture might hold at first, but summer heat does weird things to suction cups. I’ve had other mounts give up randomly on smoother surfaces than that, so the texture just adds another variable. Not worth the risk of it dropping mid-drive.

It’s been about three weeks now and it’s still holding firm, even with the car sitting in the sun while I’m at work. I do make sure to press it on really well when I first put it up, and I clean the surface with a damp cloth before sticking it. I think that makes a difference. The one thing I’d say is that I don’t mess with it much, so it just sits there and records. If you’re someone who likes to take the camera in and out every day, that might be where it gets tricky, but for a set-it-and-forget-it setup it’s been fine for me.

I’d give it a shot on the dash first honestly. I know the texture thing seems like it’d be a problem but mine has held on my car’s slightly bumpy surface for a couple months now without budging. Worst case you move it to the windshield later, but I think people assume it needs glass when it really doesn’t.
