I just got a Heater Pro X for my home office and it works fine, but I’m not sure where to put it to get the most out of it. My desk is by a window that’s a bit drafty, so should I plug it in right there or somewhere else in the room? I know it’s not going to heat the whole space, just want it to feel comfortable while I’m working.

I usually keep mine pretty close to where I’m sitting, honestly. If the draft is coming right off the window, having it on the sill or the desk nearby makes the most sense to me, since you’re the one that needs to feel it. I tried moving mine across the room once and regretted it, the warmth just doesn’t travel that far.

I think people overthink this a bit. If the draft is bugging you at your desk, having it close to you is what actually matters, not where the window is. I had mine across the room once because it felt safer and I ended up just turning it off and dealing with the cold because it wasn’t doing anything for me.

Drafty window means the cold air is winning before the heater even gets a chance. Put it on the floor near your feet, not up on the desk.

Put it on the floor angled toward you. That draft will just blow the heat right back at you if it’s up high.

The draft is going to make the spot right by the window pretty much useless, no matter how close you put it. I would keep it on the floor a few feet away, pointed toward your legs and torso. Cold air sinks, so you want the heat coming from low down. You will feel it a lot more that way.

Draft or no draft, I would not trust one of these plugged in right at the window anyway. Moisture and cold air are not great for electronics, and you are asking for the thing to work overtime. Keep it on the opposite wall and just deal with the draft separately.

I actually keep mine plugged in right on the windowsill near my desk and it does the job for me. The draft is annoying but the heat blows straight at me and I can feel it right away. Maybe I got lucky with how my window seals, but I would not move it somewhere else just because of the cold air.

I gave up trying to outsmart the draft and just moved the heater to the corner opposite the window. It takes a bit longer to feel it, but the heat actually stays in the room instead of getting sucked out. The spot right by the desk felt like a waste of electricity.

I keep mine plugged in under my desk, but pointed toward my legs rather than the window. The draft still makes that side of the room cold, but at least I’m not sitting there shivering. Honestly if the window is that bad, you might just need to block it off anyway.

The draft near the window will win every time if you plug it in there. That cold air is constantly moving past the unit, so the heat gets pulled away before you really feel it. I had a similar setup in a garage workspace with a gap under the door. I ran the heater on a shelf a few feet away, not directly in the cold path, and it made a much bigger difference for my legs and torso.

One thing that caught me off guard is how much better it works when you let it run for a while instead of turning it on and off. It needs a few minutes to get the air moving in the room. If you keep moving it around or shut it off every time you leave the desk, it never gets a chance to settle in. Point it at you from a couple feet away and give it time.

I think people overcomplicate this. If the draft is making you cold, the heater needs to be between you and the draft, not across the room. I would just put it on the desk or the floor next to you and let it blow toward your chest. The window area will stay cold but that doesn’t matter if you’re not sitting there.

If you can feel the draft sitting at your desk, that cold air is going to keep washing over you no matter where the heater is. I had mine plugged in near the window in my old place and it was basically a waste of electricity. The unit kept kicking on and off, trying to keep up with air that was colder than the thermostat setting, and I still had cold shoulders.

I moved it to the outlet on the wall next to my chair, not pointed at my face, just angled out into the room. It stopped fighting the draft and actually made the air around me feel warmer. The window area still feels chilly if I walk over there, but I stopped caring because I am not standing by the window. I am sitting at my desk. Put it where you sit, not where the cold comes in. That draft is a separate problem you fix with weather stripping, not a space heater.

Honestly I think everyone’s overthinking the draft thing. If the window is actually leaking cold air that badly, no little plug-in heater is going to fix that spot anyway. I’d just put it wherever you feel the cold most on your body while sitting, not try to fight the window.

If the draft is actually hitting you while you sit there, that’s the thing to fight, not the whole window area. Stick it close to your chair, maybe on the floor or a low table nearby, and let it blow across you. The window will stay cold but you won’t care as much. I’d just test it for a day and move it if you’re still uncomfortable.
