Looking at the Anker power bank for topping up my laptop on the go. It says compatible but depends on power requirements. Anyone know if this 30W one can actually charge a standard ultrabook or is it just for phones?

I’ve used a similar 30W one with a Dell XPS before and it worked fine for a slow top-up while I was using it. It’s not going to charge fast or from empty, but for keeping the battery from dying it’s totally fine.

With a standard ultrabook that runs on USB-C, 30W is usually enough for a slow charge or to hold the battery steady while you work. I’ve topped up my own laptop from a similar power bank without any issues, it’s not fast but it gets the job done. Just check your laptop’s power draw, most light models are fine.

I dunno, I feel like 30W is kind of the bare minimum for most ultrabooks. It’ll probably trickle charge it if the laptop isn’t doing anything heavy, but I wouldn’t count on it keeping up if you’re actually running a bunch of stuff.

30W is fine if your laptop isn’t doing heavy stuff. It won’t fast charge it, but it’ll keep it from dying in a bag or during light use. People act like it’s complicated, but it’s really just about whether your laptop pulls more power than the bank gives.

I’ve got one of those and honestly, I’m still not 100% sure if I’m using it right for my laptop. It charges my phone super fast, but when I plug it into my laptop the battery percentage barely moves unless the laptop is asleep. Might just be my settings though.

Depends on the laptop. My old XPS trickles fine on 30W if I’m just browsing, but anything heavier and it drains faster than it charges.

I think it really comes down to whether your laptop can charge over USB-C PD in the first place. If it can, 30W usually handles light tasks fine, but I’d probably check the wattage your laptop actually pulls during normal use before counting on it.

I always wonder if people factor in what the laptop is actually doing when they say it doesn’t charge. Like, if you’re running a bunch of stuff in the background, even 30W might just slow the drain rather than actually topping it off.

I’d probably just grab it and see how it goes. Worst case it keeps the battery from draining as fast while you’re using it, which is still better than nothing.
