Laura CheckMemberI’ve been using the Vital Shoulder Massager for a few days now, and I’m curious if the heat setting is supposed to feel pretty subtle. I notice it’s warm, but not as hot as I expected. Is that normal for this kind of thing, or am I just used to stronger heat from other devices?

Mike ReynoldsMemberI think people get used to the heat from those heating pads that practically cook you. This one is definitely more on the gentle side. I’ve had mine for about three weeks now and it never gets what I’d call hot. It’s more like a mild warmth that just sits there.
For me that’s actually fine because I don’t want to feel like I’m burning my shoulder, but if you’re expecting that deep penetrating heat from a rice pack or an electric blanket, you’re going to be let down. I’d say it’s closer to body temperature plus a bit.
I’ve noticed it feels warmer if I wear it over a thinner shirt, so that might be part of it too. If you’re wearing a sweatshirt or something thick, you’re probably losing most of the effect. It’s not a flaw exactly, just a different approach than what most people expect from “heat therapy.”

MemberSubtle is kind of the point with this one. It’s not trying to mimic a heating pad that scorches you; it’s more like a gentle warmth that works alongside the compression. If you’re cranking the heat expecting deep tissue sauna temps, you’ll be let down. I’d say give it a few more sessions and see if the warmth feels more noticeable once your shoulder relaxes into the massage.

Lily___MemberI was actually surprised by how mild the heat is too. I expected more of a deep warming sensation, but it’s really just a light warmth. I’ve had mine for a couple weeks and I mostly use it for the compression and vibration now. The heat feels like an afterthought rather than a main feature.

MemberIf you’re coming from one of those heating pads that feels like it’s slowly branding you, yeah, this thing is going to seem weak. I had the same reaction when I first got mine. I kept thinking something was wrong with it.
But after using it for a couple of weeks, I think it’s just designed differently. It’s not trying to bake the muscle from the outside. It’s more of a surface warmth that works alongside the compression and vibration. If you’re relying on it solely to be a heat pack, you’ll probably be disappointed. It’s more of a background thing.
My advice is to give it a few more sessions and see if you notice the difference when you turn the heat off completely. That’s when I realized it was actually doing something. It’s not a substitute for a real heating pad, but it’s not supposed to be.

Tom in NYCMemberIt’s not going to match a heating pad, and I think that’s intentional. After a week of using it, I found the warmth is more like background comfort than deep heat therapy.

MemberThat subtle warmth is probably by design since it runs on a battery.

northshoreParticipantBattery-powered warmth is always gonna be tamer than plug-in heat, that’s just physics.

MemberUsed mine for about two weeks now and yeah, the heat is on the mild side. If you’re expecting that deep, almost uncomfortable warmth you get from a plug-in pad, this isn’t going to do it. I just treat it as a bonus while the compression does the actual work.

MemberI think the mild heat is just how this one works. I got mine about a month ago and had the same thought at first, especially since I usually use a plug-in heating pad for my neck. But after using it more I realized the heat is more of a secondary thing. The compression and vibration are doing most of the work, and the warmth is just there to help things loosen up a bit.
I actually ended up preferring it that way after a while. With my heating pad I always have to keep checking that I’m not burning myself, but with this I can just strap it on and do stuff around the house without thinking about it. It’s more of a constant gentle warmth than a deep heat session.
If you really want that intense heat feeling, this probably won’t scratch that itch. But if you can accept it as a nice extra rather than the main feature, it works fine.

MemberI had the same thought when I first got mine, but honestly after using it for a couple of weeks I’ve decided I actually prefer it this way. The heat is more like a gentle warmth that builds up over the session rather than hitting you right away. It’s definitely not going to replace a heating pad, but it’s nice that it doesn’t get uncomfortable after a while.

MemberMine runs warm but definitely not hot. I think that’s just the tradeoff for it being cordless and wearable. If you’re chasing that deep heat like a plug-in pad, you’re probably going to be let down, but for what it is, it’s fine.

Laura CheckMemberGuess that explains why mine feels warm but never really hot.
