Herz P1 Smart Ring waterproof enough for swimming laps or is it just splash proof?

The 50m rating is more about pressure than motion. In a pool, moving your arms through water creates more force than sitting still at depth, so the rating isn’t a guarantee. I’ve worn mine in the ocean a handful of times and it’s been fine, but I wouldn’t trust it for daily lap swimming. The seals on these rings are tiny, and if water gets in, the sensors are done. I’d keep it for splashes and showers, not regular pool sessions.

I do take it off after and give it a quick rinse, but that’s more out of habit than worry. I’d say go for it with your laps.

I swim with mine a few times a week, not just pool laps but also some open water when it’s warm enough. I was nervous at first too because rings are small and you’d think water would mess with the sensors, but mine has been fine so far. I’ve had it since June and it’s been in the water a lot. Heart rate tracking during swims seems to work, though I’m not staring at it mid-stroke or anything. I check after and the data looks right.

The one thing I noticed is that the touch stuff on the ring acts weird when wet, but that’s not a big deal since I’m not tapping it while swimming anyway. After I get out I just rinse it with fresh water if I was in the ocean and dry it off. No issues with the screen or charging or anything like that.

I’d say if you’re planning on doing laps regularly, it should hold up. At least mine has.

I think the IP68 rating is probably fine for actual swimming, but I’m with you on being wary about the sensors long term. I’ve only done a few short pool sessions with mine, nothing intense, and it’s been totally fine. I just rinse it off after and haven’t noticed any issues yet. That said, I’d probably still be a little cautious about doing laps every single day until I’d worn it more.
