SavingStars foams up a lot, is that normal?

I had the opposite thing happen. Mine barely foamed at all, just a little fizz around the drain opening. Kind of wondered if I didn’t add enough hot water. Maybe it depends on how much gunk is in there.

Foam getting close to the overflow gave me a mini heart attack the first time too. But that’s what it’s supposed to do, I think. I just make sure to run the hot water for a good minute after it settles so it all gets pushed through.

Foam that high seems like a lot honestly. I get that it shows it’s working, but when mine did that I figured I just dumped in too much powder. Next time I used less and it still bubbled up but not as crazy. So yeah, you probably used more than needed.

That much foam is pretty standard for this stuff. The chemical reaction needs volume to push through the pipe, so if you don’t see a decent head of foam, it’s probably not doing much. I’ve used it a few times now and the first application always looks dramatic, especially on a slow drain where there’s actual gunk for it to eat through.

I will say the foam level depends on how much buildup is in there. On a drain I maintained regularly, it barely bubbles over. On one I let go for a while, it looked like a science experiment. So if you got a big reaction, that’s probably a sign it found something to work on.

If it gets too close to the overflow for your comfort, just use a little less powder next time or add the hot water slower. But I wouldn’t change the amount too much or you’ll lose effectiveness.

Mine did the same thing when I first tried it on a bathroom sink that was draining super slow. Foam climbed up way higher than I expected and I stood there for a second wondering if I was about to have a mess on my hands. It never actually spilled over though, just got close and then kind of settled.

I think the amount of foam depends on how much gunk is actually in there reacting with the stuff. The first time it was pretty dramatic because that drain was bad. The second time I used it a few weeks later on the same drain just for maintenance, it barely foamed at all, which made sense since there wasn’t much buildup left to chew through.

As long as it’s not actively pouring out onto the floor, I’d say you’re fine. The directions say to add hot water after the powder, so maybe just make sure you’re following that order and not adding extra water than what they suggest.

That’s pretty much how it behaves, yeah. First time I used it I thought I’d somehow poured in the whole box by accident, but it was just the reaction doing its thing. It does die down after a few minutes, so as long as it’s not spilling over the edge you’re probably fine.

Honestly mine barely foamed up at all when I used it, so I wouldn’t say it’s universal. Maybe my water wasn’t hot enough or the clog was too far down, but it was pretty underwhelming compared to what everyone else is describing. The drain did clear up eventually, though.

I think that’s just the nature of the stuff. The foam is what does the work, so if it’s rising that high, it’s probably hitting whatever is in there. As long as it doesn’t spill over the edge, I’d just let it do its thing and flush it out after.
