I had the JBL Clip 2 a while back and the clip on that was pretty small. Looking at the new JBL Clip 5, the carabiner looks bigger. Is it actually easier to hook onto stuff like backpack straps or belt loops now, or is it still kind of a tight fit?
I haven’t tried the Clip 5 yet but I saw one in a store and the carabiner does look a bit wider than the old one. Not totally sure if it’s a huge difference in practice though. Might depend on how thick your backpack straps are.
I had the Clip 2 too and that clip was basically just a keychain hook. The 5 is definitely bigger, but it still feels like it’s meant for thinner straps. Works fine on a belt loop though.
It’s bigger but still not super easy to hook onto a thick belt loop one handed. Works fine on a backpack strap though.
I just got the Clip 5 and the carabiner is definitely a bit bigger than the old one. It’s easier to get onto my backpack strap for sure, but I still have to fumble with it a little on thicker belt loops. Works fine for what I use it for though.
I had the Clip 2 too and honestly never really noticed the clip being an issue for me. The 5 looks fine, I’d probably just use it the same way.
It’s probably not that big of a deal unless you’re trying to clip it onto something really thick. I’d just use it as a speaker and not worry too much about the clip size.
Honestly I barely noticed the difference when I switched from the Clip 2 to the 5. I just clip it onto my bag strap and it works, never really had trouble with either one. Maybe it matters more if you’re using it on thick jackets or something.
I had the Clip 3 and the clip on that was tiny, so the 5 looks like a decent step up in that department. I’d mainly use it for clipping onto a belt loop while walking around the house, and it sounds like it’d be fine for that. Might still be a bit snug on thicker jacket pockets, but probably not a dealbreaker for most people.
Eh, the carabiner on the 5 is bigger but it’s still plastic, so I wouldn’t trust it with any real weight or rough movement. If you’re just dangling it off a thin belt loop, fine. Anything thicker and you’ll probably wrestle with it.
I just picked up the Clip 5 and honestly the carabiner feels a lot more usable than my old Clip 2. I can actually hook it onto my belt loop without having to wiggle it around.
I think people might be overthinking the clip thing a bit. It’s definitely bigger than the old one, and I haven’t had any trouble hooking mine onto my gym bag or a belt loop. It’s not like you’re hanging a dumbbell off it, it’s a speaker.
I haven’t messed with the Clip 2 clip in a while, but the one on the 5 is definitely wide enough to hook onto a belt loop without forcing it. The plastic still feels a bit flimsy if you plan on swinging it around a lot though. I’d say it’s a decent upgrade for just clipping it on and leaving it there.
I just use mine clipped to a loop on my daypack and it works fine. I never really had a problem with the old one either, so the bigger clip is just a nice bonus. It’s not something I’d overthink.
I mean, it’s a speaker clip, not a climbing carabiner. It’s bigger than the old one, so it hooks onto stuff fine. Kind of feels like people are making it more complicated than it needs to be.
I had the Clip 3 and the clip on that was kind of a pain to get around thicker straps. From what I’ve seen of the 5 it does look like a bigger opening, so I’d guess it’s easier. Not sure if the plastic is any different but it seems fine for light use.
It’s a clip on a small speaker, not a precision tool. If it hooks onto your bag or belt loop, it works. People way overthink this stuff.
