Enence Translator vs old phrasebook apps for offline use?

Honestly I think people overthink the offline thing a bit. If you’re just asking for basic directions or menu stuff, the Enence does the job fine without wifi. The old phrasebook apps were handy but scrolling through categories takes way longer than just speaking into the device. Not really a huge difference for simple use.

I’ve used both and honestly, the Enence is fine for grabbing a quick phrase on the fly without digging through menus, but my old phrasebook app had way more specific travel phrases stored. It really depends if you want to talk back and forth or just need a static list.

I get what you mean about the old phrasebook apps. They work if you plan ahead but flipping through categories mid-conversation is kind of annoying. The Enence is quicker for just saying something and getting a response back. I haven’t used the Chinese offline much myself though.

I guess it depends if you prefer having everything saved and organized your own way or just want something that reacts when you talk at it. I kind of get where you’re coming from. I’ve got an Enence and I barely use the offline stuff because the online mode is just way better if you have signal, so for me the comparison never really mattered much. I just keep a few screenshots of common phrases as a backup and call it a day. It works fine for my basic travel needs.

Offline on these things is always gonna be a trade-off. I’d rather have the Enence just to avoid pulling my phone out every time.

I only tried the Chinese offline on mine a few times and it got the job done for ordering food and asking directions. Probably less versatile than a phrasebook app but way faster in the moment.
