Qinux BarkBuz placement for a dog that moves around a lot?

Thinking about getting the Qinux BarkBuz but not sure where I’d actually put it. My dog barks from different spots in the house and yard, so I’m wondering if the device needs to be close to him or if it just picks up barks from wherever. Does it work if he’s moving around a lot? Just trying to figure out if it’s practical for my setup.

10 meters isn’t much if your dog is bouncing between rooms. Mine triggers mostly when he’s within a room or two, so placement kind of depends on where the barking actually starts.

If he’s moving around a lot, the 10m range is really the limiting factor. It only reacts when he’s within that bubble of the unit, so you’d basically need one per zone or move it with him. My setup works because my dog mostly barks from the same couple of spots.

Mine mostly catches my dog when he’s already in the same room, so if yours is constantly roaming it’s hit or miss. I ended up just moving mine to whatever room he barks from most.

Mine only really caught my dog when he happened to be near it, and he’s a pacer too. I ended up leaving it in the hallway since that’s the one spot he crosses no matter where he’s headed. It’s not going to follow him around, so you kind of just pick your best guess spot.

I mostly use mine when I’m working and my dog is camped out near my desk, so it catches him fine there. When he’s tearing around the yard or upstairs it’s a different story, since the unit only seems to pick up barks that happen close by. If your dog is really all over the place, it’s probably going to miss a good chunk of the barking.

Placement barely mattered for mine. He barks from all over and it still caught him fine, so I never bothered moving it around.

Mine worked better when I stopped moving it around.

I’m weird about not having gadgets sitting out in the open, so that would bug me more than the range thing. Mine lives tucked on a shelf and I just accept that it’s not going to catch every single bark from the far corner of the house.

I’d say placement matters more than people admit if your dog is really mobile. Mine is a roamer too, and honestly I don’t think one fixed spot is going to cover every room and the yard equally well. Not a dealbreaker, just something to expect.

I wouldn’t count on one spot covering a dog that roams. Mine only caught barks when he was in the same room, so if your dog is all over the place I’d skip it or plan on following him around with it.

I use mine out on the patio and my dog does laps around the yard, it still catches him most of the time. Indoors he’s usually near me anyway so that part’s easy. I just leave it in one spot and don’t fuss with it.

Mine caught my dog from two rooms over.

Placement is the whole ballgame with these things. Mine is set up in the hallway and it still catches my dog when he wanders into the kitchen, so a fixed spot can cover more than you’d think. I just leave it be and it does its job.

I’d push back on the idea that one unit handles a dog that’s constantly changing rooms. Mine only really did anything when my dog was in the same space as it. I had it near the living room for about a month and it would trigger when he barked at the window there, but if he wandered off to the back bedroom or out through the dog door, nothing. It’s not tracking him, it’s just listening near wherever it sits. So if your dog is a real roamer, you’re basically looking at buying more than one or moving it around constantly. I ended up just keeping it in the one spot where he barks the most and accepting that it’s a partial fix. For the price I wasn’t thrilled, but it did break the cycle in that one room.

If your dog is constantly moving, one unit is going to be hit or miss. Mine only triggered when my dog happened to be within a few feet of it, so a roamer would mostly slip past it. Not sure this thing is worth the hassle for your setup.

I think placement matters less than people make it out to be, at least in my experience watching my sister use hers. Her dog is a total wanderer, goes from the couch to the back door to the kitchen while barking at nothing, and the unit still caught him from across the room pretty consistently. The one thing I noticed is that it seemed to work better when it wasn’t tucked behind furniture or anything blocking the sound. She had it sitting on a shelf kind of out in the open and that seemed to do the trick. So I’d say just pick a spot that’s central to where your dog hangs out most and leave it visible. The moving around part didn’t seem to be the issue for her setup.

I’d just get a second one if your dog is really all over the place. Mine handled one room fine but once my dog started pacing the whole floor it was pretty useless.
