MemberProbably a dumb question but I unplug mine when I’m not using it. Is that fine or does it mess with the settings or something? I’ve only had the Coolizi Coolzy a couple weeks and it’s been working fine otherwise. Just don’t want to wear out the plug or reset everything every time. Figured someone here would know.

MemberI still leave mine plugged in most of the time just because I’m lazy, but I unplugged it for a week when I was away and nothing reset. Settings were the same when I plugged it back in.

MemberI’ve been unplugging mine between uses too and nothing has reset on me so far. Settings seem to stick just fine, so I don’t think it’s an issue.

MemberI don’t own one yet, still comparing a few options, but the plug question is actually one of the things I’ve been thinking about. From what I’ve seen with other small climate units, the plug and outlet usually aren’t the weak point. The bigger thing is whether the unit pulls any standby power when it’s off, and whether unplugging it regularly could wear out the cord or the outlet over time. Two weeks isn’t really long enough to notice either way. If it were me, I’d probably leave it plugged in and just use the power button, since that’s what it’s designed for. The only reason I’d unplug is if I were going away for a while or there was a storm. Curious what made you start unplugging it in the first place, was it a habit or something you read?

Ben KerrMemberI leave mine plugged in, just easier that way.

MemberUnplugging between uses is actually what I do with most of my stuff. The only thing I’d watch is the plug itself getting loose over time if you’re yanking it constantly. Mine’s only been a few weeks too so no long term verdict from me.

Rob CMemberUnplugging it doesn’t wipe anything, the settings stay saved. Whether it’s worth doing is a different question. Unplugging and plugging back in constantly is just going to wear out the outlet or the cord over time.

MemberMine lives on a switched outlet and I flip it off overnight, been doing that since winter and the modes are still where I left them. Only thing I noticed is it takes a few seconds to get going again in the morning. So unplugging is fine as far as I can tell.

MemberLeaving it plugged in probably isn’t a big deal, but I’d still unplug mine if I’m gone for a few days. I’m still comparing units myself, so take that with a grain of salt. The plug wear thing sounds more annoying than any settings issue.

MemberMine actually started acting weird when I unplugged it every night. Not the settings, those came back fine. But after about a month of doing that, the touchscreen would lag for the first few minutes after plugging back in, like it needed time to wake up properly. It still worked, just felt sluggish compared to when I left it plugged in.
I stopped unplugging it after that and the lag went away. That was maybe four months ago and it’s been fine since. I don’t know if the unplugging caused it or if it was just a coincidence with something else, but that was my experience.
I get wanting to save a bit on electricity or whatever, but for me personally the hassle of plugging it back in and waiting for it to act normal wasn’t worth it. I just leave it alone now. It’s not like it draws a ton when it’s off anyway, at least not that I’ve noticed on my bill.
So I’d say it’s less about the settings resetting and more about the unit just not liking being cut off constantly. But that’s just what happened with mine over a few months, could be different for you.

Nina WhiteMemberMine’s been unplugged and plugged back in pretty much daily since spring and nothing’s reset on it. The touchscreen is still as responsive as day one. So the whole wear and tear thing hasn’t been my experience at all.

MemberI actually think leaving it plugged in makes more sense than unplugging it every single time. Not because of settings or anything, but these units are built to sit on standby and the plug is going to get more wear from you yanking it in and out than from just sitting there. I get the instinct to unplug stuff, I used to do that with everything in my place, but at some point I realized I was putting way more stress on the cords and outlets than the appliances themselves. The one thing I’d actually check is whether it draws anything noticeable while idle, because if it does, then yeah, pull the plug when you’re gone for a while. Otherwise I just leave mine alone and it’s been fine.

MemberSettings aren’t the issue. The real question is whether the outlet itself is getting hot. I had a different portable unit a while back and the plug area on the cord got noticeably warm after being left in for long stretches, not the unit itself, the actual plug. Started unplugging it when I wasn’t using it just for that reason. Nothing reset, modes stayed put, no drama. So it’s less about the Coolzy and more about whatever outlet you’ve got it on. If yours stays cool to the touch after a few hours, leaving it in is fine. If it’s warm, that’s your answer. Not saying it’s dangerous, just that I’d rather not push it on an old outlet. The wear on the plug from unplugging daily is a real thing too, so pick whichever annoyance you’d rather deal with.

northshoreParticipantLeaving it plugged in constantly is what I’d do instead. I’ve had mine on a smart plug for about five months now and the touchscreen and remote still work exactly the same as when I got it. Unplugging it every day just seems like extra wear on the cord for no real benefit.

MemberI leave mine plugged in pretty much all the time, mostly because I’m lazy and it’s in a spot where the cord isn’t in the way. Nothing’s reset on me yet and it’s been a few months. Unplugging it now and then shouldn’t hurt anything though.

MemberGood to know, I’ll just leave mine plugged in then.
