Been using a Ryoko Pro for a few months while traveling and it mostly makes life easier. Roaming with its SIM is super convenient so I don’t have to faff with local cards, but the signal drops a bit on trains and in some hotels. Battery gives me around half a day with light use so I usually carry a power bank. Anyone else notice roaming speeds worse than local SIMs or have tips to get a bit more runtime?

Yep, roaming felt slower for me too, phone often ends up on a weaker partner network so local SIMs beat it on trains. If you want more runtime turn off auto sync, cut brightness and background apps, or just keep a tiny power bank. If you need consistent speed, swap to a local SIM.

I think Ryoko’s roaming gets sketchy on trains and in some hotels, really annoying when it drops mid-thing. For battery I started using airplane mode during long stretches of travel to stop the constant network hunting and it actually helps a lot. Anyone else noticed the battery get worse after a few months or is that just mine?

Yep, mine dropped a bit after a few months, looked like normal wear. Firmware updates, not leaving it on 24/7, and doing an occasional full charge/discharge helped a little, plus airplane mode during long stretches. Dimming LEDs and kicking off extra devices saved me an extra hour or so.

Thanks RyanT, good tips. I’ve been keeping firmware up to date and do pop into airplane mode on long runs, that helps but I still get about half a day with light use. I’ll try dimming the LEDs and disconnecting a couple gadgets to squeeze extra time. Still carry a tiny power bank but overall it’s handy even if trains are flaky.

I disagree. Roaming speeds have been fine for me and the battery usually gets me through a full day.

Battery’s fine for me, gets through a morning of browsing and calls so I still tote a small powerbank for afternoons.

I disagree, roaming wasn’t slower for me, the Ryoko Pro matched local SIMs where coverage was decent. Battery life is the real gripe, I never hit the advertised eight hours.

I think roaming felt a touch slower than local SIMs for me, and the battery only makes it half a day. Maybe carry a tiny powerbank like I do.

Battery life is what it is for something this small, I just plug it in when I’m at a cafe or in the hotel room and it’s fine. Roaming speeds have been okay for me, never really noticed a huge difference unless I’m in the middle of nowhere.

Honestly I haven’t had much trouble with roaming speeds, but I’m usually in cities. Battery life is fine for me since I just charge it whenever I’m sitting still for a bit.

Honestly I think the battery thing just depends on what you’re doing, I’ve had days where it drained faster than I expected. The roaming speeds I’m not totally sure about, I haven’t really compared it side by side with a local card.

I’ve had mine for a bit too and honestly the roaming speeds seem fine to me, never really noticed a big difference compared to a local SIM. Battery life is what it is, I just keep it plugged in when I can.

Battery life is about what I expected from something this small, honestly. I don’t bother with a power bank, just charge it when I’m at a desk.

Roaming speeds are one of those things I keep wondering about before I commit to buying one of these. I travel a few times a year for work and mostly stay in bigger cities, so I’m guessing I’d get decent performance, but I’ve heard mixed things about how these devices pick carriers in more remote spots. The train thing you mentioned does make me pause though, since I usually do a bit of work while commuting between cities.

Battery life sounds manageable if you’re okay with topping up during the day. Half a day of light use is actually better than I expected for something that small. I’d probably still grab a power bank just to be safe, but it’s nice to know it’s not a total drain.

Do you find the connection recovers pretty quickly once you’re out of the dead zone, or does it take a while to latch back on?
