When I switch from night mode back to normal during the day, everything looks kinda washed out for a bit. Is that just how these things work or am I doing something wrong? The Qinux BlackOptic still takes fine pics otherwise. Just wondering if it’s a setting I missed.

Mine does the same thing but it clears up after maybe ten seconds or so. I always figured it was just the sensor adjusting back after the IR shuts off. Doesn’t seem to hurt the photos any, so I just let it do its thing.

Mine does something similar but it’s more of a gradual shift than a washout. Takes a few seconds to settle back to normal colors. I just figured that’s the sensor catching up after the IR cuts off.

I’ve noticed mine does it more if I switch right after using the IR for a while. Leaving it off for a minute before going back to normal mode seems to help a bit. Not sure if that’s a real fix or just coincidence though.

That’s normal for digital night vision. The sensor gets overwhelmed by daylight after IR use, so it takes a bit to recalibrate. Nothing you missed in the settings.

I’ve run mine for about four months and never got any washed out look going back to daytime mode. Maybe I just switch slower than you do, but I’d take a look at your SD card first. Mine got weird color shifts once and it turned out the card was nearly full.

I get a bit of that too but mine shows up more like a weird pinkish tint on the edges of the frame, not the whole picture. It usually happens if I flip back to normal mode while the IR is still turned up high. If I lower the IR first and then switch over, the colors come back pretty much right away. Not sure why that makes a difference, it just does on mine.

What I have noticed is that it depends a lot on where I am pointing the thing. If I go from a dark area straight into bright sun, it takes longer to look normal again. But if I step into shade first and then switch modes, it is fine. So for me it is less about the device itself and more about how big of a jump in light it is dealing with at that moment.

My brother has a different night vision gadget, not this brand, and his does the same kind of thing. His actually goes greenish for a few seconds instead of washed out. So it seems like it is just something these digital ones do when they move between modes. The picture quality on mine has not gotten worse over time or anything like that, it still shoots the same as day one.

I’ve had a few night vision gadgets over the years and the washed out look after IR is pretty common across brands, not just this one. My old unit would go kind of grey-green for a bit before the colors snapped back. What I noticed is it depends a lot on how bright it is outside. On an overcast day it barely happened, but stepping out into direct sun after using IR for a while made it way more obvious. I never messed with any settings for it, just let it do its thing. Sounds like you’re not missing anything, it’s just the sensor doing its little reset dance. If the pics still come out fine then I’d say you’re good.

    Mine never does that.

First time I’ve seen someone describe it as washed out. In my case it goes straight to a greenish tint for a few seconds, then it’s fine. Only thing I’d check is whether you’re covering the lens when you flip modes.

Ive had mine about two months and yeah the transition isnt instant for me either. Its brief though, by the time I pocket it and pull it back out its already normal. Probably just how the sensor adjusts.

Mine does the same thing and I always figured that’s just the sensor adjusting back after all that IR. Takes a few seconds and then it’s normal again. I don’t think you’re missing a setting, it just kind of does that.

Sounds normal, mine does that too. Moving on.
