MemberMy home office gets pretty warm in the afternoons, especially now that spring is here. I already have an AerioQ mounted on the wall in the bedroom and it’s been fine for cooling at night. I’m thinking about getting a second one for the office, but I don’t want to spend the money if it’s overkill. The room is small, maybe 10×10, and the sun hits the window for a couple hours. Anyone using theirs in a similar setup? Just wondering if the cooling mode keeps up or if I should look at something else.

MemberA second one for a 10×10 office is not overkill at all. Mine is in a slightly bigger room and it still takes a while to knock down the afternoon heat when the sun is coming in. I’d rather have it running on low than sweat through my meetings.

MemberA 10×10 room with afternoon sun is exactly the kind of space where a second unit makes sense, not overkill. I don’t buy the “one is enough” thing people say. Sun beating on a window for two hours can undo whatever cooling you had going.

Tom in NYCMemberMine couldn’t keep my office comfortable once the sun hit, and that room’s about the same size. It was fine in the morning, then just kind of blew around warm air by 3pm. So I’d say try it before buying a second one, because for me it wasn’t enough.

KhanMemberBuying a second one for the afternoon sun isn’t really overkill, but I’d pump the brakes on expecting it to feel like real AC in there. Wall units like that are better at taking the edge off than actually beating back a room that’s been baking for hours. If the window’s getting hit for a couple hours straight, that’s a lot of heat for one of these to fight.

MemberAdding a second one for a 10×10 office is fine if you just want to take the edge off. Just don’t expect it to fight real afternoon sun. I’d rather have a fan and closed blinds doing most of the work than relying on a wall unit for that.

Noah KentMemberProbably not worth it if the bedroom one already felt kind of weak. Afternoon sun in a small room is a different beast than nighttime cooling, and a second wall unit won’t magically fix that. I’d put that money toward something with more actual cooling power.

MemberMine barely did anything once the sun hit that window.

MemberSpring afternoon sun through a window is a totally different situation than nighttime cooling. At night the room is already cool and the unit just has to maintain that. In the afternoon you’re asking it to pull down heat that’s actively building up, and that’s a bigger job. I’ve noticed with mine that placement matters a lot in that scenario. If it’s mounted somewhere that lets the air actually circulate around the room instead of just blowing at one spot, it handles warm afternoons better. But if the sun is hitting the window hard for a couple hours, no small wall unit is going to make it feel cold in there. It’ll take the edge off, which might be all you need for a home office. Depends on whether you want comfortable or actually cool.

d4nielParticipantI have one in my office and it handles the afternoon sun better than I expected. My setup is a bit different since I keep a blackout curtain pulled on the west side until around 3pm, then let the light in after the worst heat passes. The AerioQ stays on low the whole time and the room never really gets uncomfortable. Not saying it beats a real AC, but for a small room it does the job without me thinking about it. The one thing I noticed is that placement matters more than I figured. Mine sits higher on the wall and angled toward where I actually sit, which made a bigger difference than any setting. If you already like the one in the bedroom, a second unit for the office seems reasonable to me. I would just mess with where you mount it before deciding it can’t keep up.

MemberI’d just grab a second one. A 10×10 office is small enough that even if it doesn’t feel like full AC, it’ll take the edge off those couple hours of sun. Mine’s been fine for a room that size during the day.

Laura ReadsMemberI keep mine on a desk near the window rather than wall mounted, and for a 10×10 room it does okay if I turn it on before the room gets hot. If I wait until the afternoon sun has already warmed everything up, it takes a while to catch up and never really feels cold, just less stuffy. So timing makes a bigger difference than I expected. I usually just run it on the lower setting for an hour or so and that’s enough for me, but I’m not trying to get the room chilly, just comfortable enough to work. For a second unit I’d probably try it in the office first before deciding, since you already know how it behaves at night. Afternoon heat is just a different thing honestly.

MemberI actually think the office is a better fit for it than a bedroom, since you’re awake and moving around instead of needing the whole room chilled for sleep. Mine sits in a corner office that gets sun until about 4, and it’s been a nice little helper in the afternoons. It won’t turn the room cold, but it keeps me from feeling sticky while I work.

MemberAppreciate the replies, think I’ll just grab a second one.
