Does the CoolCove actually heat as well as it cools?

I’m thinking about getting a CoolCove for my apartment since it seems handy for both summer and winter. But I’ve seen a lot of portable units that are great at cooling and kind of weak at heating. Does the CoolCove actually put out decent heat, or is it more of a fan that just takes the chill off? I’m not expecting it to replace my main heater, just wondering if it’s worth it for the cold months too. Anyone used it in winter?

I’ve used mine in a cold bedroom and it takes the edge off fine, though I mostly care about the noise level since I sleep light. It’s not going to warm a whole apartment, but for one room it does the job. My preference is just keeping it near my desk instead of relying on it overnight.

Heating mode works, but don’t expect it to warm up a whole apartment. Mine struggles once the room gets really cold. It’s basically a fancy space heater for one spot.

Mine does heat, but it’s more of a warm-up-the-room-you’re-in thing than actual winter heat. I used it in a small office for a couple months and it kept me comfortable without touching the main thermostat. If you want it to replace a real heater, probably not.

Mine pulls about the same watts as a small space heater, so the heat is real, not just a lukewarm fan. That said, 800W isn’t going to do much in a big open living room. Fine for a bedroom or bathroom.

I’m mainly looking at it for the heating side too, and the thing that stood out to me is that it actually uses a ceramic heating element rather than just blowing room temp air around. That makes me a lot more willing to try it as a supplement in my living room when the main heat isn’t quite enough. I haven’t bought one yet, but that part of the description made me less worried about it being basically a fan.

Mine actually did better in winter than summer, which seems opposite of what most people say. My apartment gets pretty drafty and I figured it would be useless once it got properly cold, but it kept my little living room comfortable enough that I stopped dragging out my old space heater most nights. I ran it pretty much every evening from November through February last year. It’s not going to blast you out of the room or anything, but it held its own way more than I expected for something this small. Cooling side is honestly where I was less impressed, took forever to notice a difference in July. So if heating is your main worry, I wouldn’t count it out.

Mine’s weaker heating than cooling, no way around that.

I’ve had mine for about three months and the heat side surprised me. It won’t carry a whole apartment, but in my bedroom it’s enough that I stopped dragging out my old space heater. Runs quieter than I expected too.

Heat mode works but it’s not the same as cooling. I’ve used mine on and off since February and it takes the edge off a cold room, nothing more. If you’re picturing something close to a real heater you’ll be disappointed.

I got mine mainly for a small office and the heat side has been fine for that. It’s not going to warm up a whole open apartment, but it keeps a closed room comfortable without me dragging out a space heater. The remote is handy too since I can just leave it on the wall.

Heat mode is the only reason I kept mine past the return window, so I’ll push back on the “it’s weaker, no way around it” stuff. In my case the cooling side was the letdown. I ran it in a back bedroom last summer and it barely moved the needle unless I was sitting right in front of it, which is annoying since that’s the whole pitch. Then winter came and I figured I’d get maybe a week of use before boxing it up.

Instead it turned into the thing I actually reach for. My place has one of those old wall heaters that either blasts you out of the room or does nothing, so I started running the CoolCove on the desk while I work in the mornings and it’s been solid. Warm air comes out fast, like within a minute or two, and the room holds it fine as long as the door’s shut. I’ve used it pretty much every cold morning since November and it hasn’t choked once.

Where I’ll admit it falls short is if you leave a door open to a hallway or a bigger space, then it’s just fighting a losing battle. But for one closed room it’s genuinely fine.

My preference is honestly just having one thing on the shelf instead of a space heater and a fan taking up closet space, and that alone made it worth keeping for me.

I’d still grab one if the price is right, but I wouldn’t count on it as your main heat source in an apartment. It’s more of a “make the room I’m sitting in comfortable” kind of thing for winter. If you already have regular heating, it’s a nice extra, not a replacement.

Heat was actually weaker than I expected when I tried mine in January. It took forever to feel like anything more than a warm breeze, so I boxed it up and went back to my space heater. Still fine for cooling, but I would not buy it for winter.
