PixelKevinMemberI’ve been using SavingStars for a couple months now and it works fine for my shower drain. But I noticed the powder starts clumping together after I open the bag a few times. I keep it in the cabinet under the sink so maybe it’s the humidity? Just wondering if this happens to anyone else. It still foams up when I use it so I guess it’s okay, but the clumps make it a bit annoying to measure out.

MemberMine stays in the bathroom closet and it still clumps, so I don’t think it’s just your cabinet humidity. I’ve had the same bag since spring and it got lumpy about a month in. Still foams fine though, I just break the chunks up with a spoon before scooping.

MemberMine got a bit chunky too but I noticed it more in the winter when the cabinet gets cold. Still foams fine so I just break up the big pieces with the scoop and keep going.

MemberI’ve had a bag sitting on the shelf above my washing machine for maybe four or five months now and I honestly never noticed clumps until I read this thread. Went and checked after seeing the title and yeah, there are some chunks near the bottom of the bag. The top part is still loose powder though.
I think mine got that way because I left the bag open overnight a couple times. Not on purpose, just forgot to zip it back up after doing the kitchen sink. The next morning the top layer felt kind of stiff, so I broke it up with a spoon and it was fine. It does foam the same way as the loose stuff in my experience. I never really noticed a difference in how well it cleaned either, though I mostly use it for maintenance so there isn’t much buildup to begin with.
The part I don’t love is measuring it when it’s chunky. I usually just eyeball a scoop but the clumps make it uneven, so some loads get more powder than others. Hasn’t caused any problem yet, drains still flow okay. I figure as long as it’s fizzing up when you add the hot water, it’s doing its job. Mine’s about halfway gone and I’ll probably just finish the bag rather than toss it over some lumps.

MemberI actually went from being pretty interested in this stuff to kind of over it after a few months. Not because it stopped working, but because the whole process got annoying in a way I didn’t expect when I first bought it.
When I started looking at SavingStars I mostly cared about whether it actually cleared slow drains, and it did handle that part fine for me. But the longer I used it, the more I realized the powder format is just not something I enjoy dealing with. Mine turned into a solid lump near the bottom of the bag and I had to dig at it with a spoon every time. That got old fast. I know people say just break it up and keep going, and sure, that works, but it’s still a step I didn’t sign up for.
What changed my mind wasn’t one big failure. It was more that I kept reaching for it less and less because measuring out chunks felt like a chore, and I started wondering why I was putting up with that for something that’s supposed to make drain care easier. So I’m mixed on it now. It does the job but the clumping thing is real enough that I’d think twice before buying another bag. If someone asked me right now I’d probably tell them to look at a liquid option first unless they really want the powder.

MemberClumping is just what this stuff does once air gets to it. Mine turned into a brick near the end of the bag and I still used it, foamed up the same every time. So yeah, normal, just annoying.

Luis_A91MemberClumps are pretty common with powders like this once moisture gets in, and the under-sink cabinet is basically the worst spot for that. I’d just move it somewhere drier and break up what’s left in the bag. As long as it still foams, it’s doing its job.

MemberI’ve used mine on and off for maybe three months and mine doesn’t really clump much at all, so I’m not totally convinced this is just something the powder does no matter what. I keep mine in the laundry room on a shelf and it’s stayed pretty loose the whole time. Maybe a few tiny chunks here and there but nothing that makes measuring annoying.
The one thing I’ll say is I always press the bag closed really well and kind of squeeze the air out before I seal it. Not sure if that actually matters or if I just got lucky with my bag, but it’s the only thing I do differently from what people are describing. My sister used the same stuff and hers got clumpy fast, so who knows. Could be a batch thing too.
I don’t think clumping means it’s ruined though. If it still foams up then it’s doing its job. I’d probably just poke at it with a spoon before scooping if it gets bad. The only real downside for me is that once it starts clumping, the scoop doesn’t get an even amount and I end up using more than I meant to. That’s more of an annoyance than a real problem. Mine has never turned into a full brick so maybe I just haven’t hit that point yet.

MemberMine never clumped and it lives right by the tub.

MemberI’ve had mine for about two months and the clumping doesn’t really bother me much. The bag I keep in the laundry room stays mostly loose, but the one I left in the garage did turn into chunks. Same product, different spot, so I figure it’s just how the powder reacts when it picks up any moisture. Honestly the clumps kind of help me in a way because I can just grab a rough scoop with my hand instead of trying to measure powder that flies everywhere. It still fizzes up the same when the hot water hits it, so I haven’t seen any drop in how well it clears my kitchen sink. The one thing I’d say is don’t let it sit open for long stretches because once it starts hardening it gets harder to break apart. Other than that I just use it as is.

MemberClumping doesn’t seem like a big deal to me. Mine got a few hard spots but I just break them up with the scoop and keep going. If it still foams, the stuff is doing its job.

MemberMine does the same but still foams fine.
