I’m thinking about getting the Vital Shoulder Massager for my desk job, but I’m not sure if it’s too bulky to wear while working. I don’t want something that looks weird or gets in the way of typing. Has anyone tried using it at the office? Just wondering if it’s practical for everyday use.

Mine doesn’t get in the way of typing at all.

I wore mine during a video call last week and totally forgot it was on until the heat kicked in. The bulk is mostly at the back of the neck, so from the front you just look like you have a slightly thick collar. Nobody said anything, but I also didn’t ask.

It’s fine for light desk work, but I wouldn’t wear it through a whole shift. I usually put mine on during the slower part of my afternoon instead.

I think it really depends on your office vibe. A coworker of mine has one and it’s definitely noticeable on the shoulders, so she only uses it during breaks or lunch. If you’re in a more casual setting it’s probably fine, but in a formal office I’d skip wearing it at your desk.

Probably too bulky for everyday office wear.

It’s fine for typing but I wouldn’t wear it for a full 8 hour day. I usually just put mine on after lunch when my shoulders start getting stiff. Does the job without looking too weird.

I’d just get it and keep it at your desk, not wear it all day. If it’s weird looking, that only matters for the few minutes it’s actually on you. Use it on breaks and nobody will care.

I actually find the neck part more annoying than the shoulder bulk. Typing is fine but looking down at my keyboard gets awkward with it on.

It’s not something I’d wear for a whole workday, but for a quick session here and there it’s fine. I mostly notice the pressure when I lean forward, not while typing normally. If your office is pretty chill about stuff like that, it’s manageable.

Mine never got in the way of typing at all.

Mine sits in my desk drawer until I need it.

I wear mine mostly when I’m stuck in long calls or reading, not actively typing. It’s noticeable but nobody at my office has said anything. After a couple weeks it just became part of the desk setup.

I’d rather have the heat and compression at home than at my desk. My shoulders get tight after work, not during it, so wearing something like that while typing feels pointless for me personally.

The bulk isn’t really the problem, in my experience. I’ve worn mine through a couple of longer spreadsheet sessions and it never blocked my hands or made typing weird. Looks a bit odd if someone walks by, but that’s about it.

Mine mostly lives on my chair now. I tried wearing it through a morning of emails and ended up taking it off because the strap kept sliding when I moved my arms. For actual desk work I’d say skip it, but it’s fine if you’re just parked in meetings.

I wouldn’t buy it for wearing during work, personally. I got one of these wearable massagers last year, different brand, and the reality is I used it maybe twice at my desk before it became a hassle. Not because it was bulky exactly, but because you can’t really forget you’re wearing it. The compression squeezes on a schedule, so you’re sitting there getting your shoulder clamped while trying to type, and it pulls your attention every few minutes.

What actually worked for me was keeping it at home and using it right after work, or on weekends when my shoulders are wrecked from sitting all day. That’s when I actually want the heat and the squeeze. At the office I just want to get through my emails without a gadget strapped to me.

So if you’re buying it mainly for desk use, I’d think twice. If you want it for after work, that’s a different story.

I actually wear mine while typing all the time and it hasn’t gotten in the way at all. The strap stays put for me, which seems to be the opposite of what some folks here are saying. Maybe it depends on how you adjust it.

Depends what you mean by practical. I wouldn’t bother with it during actual work hours. It’s fine for a few minutes here and there but wearing it all day just gets in the way.

Typing is the exact reason I stopped using mine at work. My hands were fine but I kept catching the edge on the desk whenever I reached for anything.

I’ve had mine for about four months and the office thing never really clicked for me, but not for the reason you’d think. The bulk is fine. What got me was the heat. Ten minutes in and my neck starts sweating, which is not a great look under a collared shirt in a shared office. So now it lives in my bag and I use it on the train home instead, which honestly works better anyway since I’m not trying to type at the same time. If your office runs cold it might be a non issue. Otherwise I’d think of it more as something for breaks or the commute than something you wear through a full workday. It does what it says though, no complaints there.
