Does the DashOne Pro suction mount leave marks on the windshield?

Mine left more than a faint ring when I pulled it off my old Corolla. There was a little circular patch where the rubber had basically baked onto the glass after a summer of sitting in the sun. Glass cleaner did nothing for it, but a plastic razor blade and some goo gone got it off in a couple minutes. The weird part is the ring came back a few weeks later even though the mount wasn’t there anymore. Turned out it was actually on the inside of the glass, like some kind of residue or coating thing that showed up when the light hit it right. Never fully went away either. So if you’re moving it to a car you actually care about, maybe think about where you stick it, because on a beater it doesn’t matter but on something nice it’s annoying.

That ring isn’t necessarily permanent, but glass cleaner alone usually won’t touch it. Mine did the same thing after about eight months on a rear window. The issue is the rubber edge of the cup off-gasses and leaves a residue that bonds to the glass surface, so wiping it just smears it around. What got mine off was a plastic razor blade and some isopropyl alcohol, working at it gently. Took maybe five minutes of patient scraping. No scratches, and the ring was gone.

But here’s the thing nobody mentions. If the glass has any kind of aftermarket tint film on the inside, you’re in a different situation entirely. The residue can actually stain the film itself and that does not come out. I learned that the hard way on a previous car and had to live with a permanent circle right in my line of sight. So if the new car has tint, think twice before sticking anything to it.

Also worth considering: how hot does the new car get sitting outside? The mount itself holds fine, that was never my problem. It’s the rubber degrading over time in the heat that causes the marking in the first place. A car that sits in a garage most of the time will probably be fine. One that bakes in a parking lot every day, less so. I do not have a magic fix for that beyond just accepting it or going with a different mounting method entirely. Dash cams and clean glass just do not really coexist long term in my experience.

I had the same ring on my old car and it did come off eventually, but it took a bit of rubbing with a microfiber cloth and some warm soapy water. Not something that just wipes away with regular cleaner. I’d just clean the spot before you stick it on the new car and it should be fine.

Mine actually left a slight discoloration too, but it faded on its own after a couple weeks in the sun. I didn’t bother with any special cleaner. Maybe just give it some time before assuming it’s permanent.

I’ve moved my dash cam between three different cars over the years and never had a ring stick around permanently. I get wanting to be careful with a new car though, but I really don’t think a suction cup is going to mess up your windshield. That glass is a lot tougher than people give it credit for. If anything it’s usually just whatever was on the cup itself that leaves the mark, not the glass getting damaged. Wipe the cup down before you stick it on the new car and you should be fine. Worst case you get another faint ring and it fades like the first one did.

I’ve taken mine off a few times and the ring doesn’t always come back. Last time I wiped it with a damp cloth and it was gone for good. Might just depend on the glass.

I had one leave a faint ring after about six months, and it didn’t come off with regular cleaner either. It turned out to be a tiny bit of tint or coating damage right where the rubber sat, not residue. I moved the mount slightly the next time and haven’t had an issue since.
