WaveMax without a window?

Mine sits on a bookshelf nowhere near a window and I still pull in all my local channels fine. Took a bit of fiddling with where exactly I set it, but once it locked in it stayed put. Worth a shot in your place before you start hauling stuff into the kitchen.

I actually kept mine in a bedroom for about two months before I ever tried moving it around, and it picked up plenty of channels there. No window in sight. The one thing that surprised me was how much the building itself mattered more than the window situation. I’m on the ground floor surrounded by other units, and I still got the main local stations without much fuss. The picture was a little flaky on rainy days, but that happened regardless of where I put the thing. So I’d say the window thing gets overstated. It helps maybe at the margins, but it’s not like the antenna is blind without one. If you’re in a decent signal area you have a real shot at it working from a shelf. If you’re far from the towers, no window is going to save you anyway.

My last apartment had the same issue and I just kept mine on top of a cabinet, worked fine for the main local stations. It’s not like it has to physically see outside or anything. I’d say just try it wherever you actually want it and see what you get.

Putting it on a shelf never really worked out for me. I had mine in a living room that gets decent reception and it still picked up way fewer channels than when I had it sitting by glass. For a one window apartment I’d honestly just deal with the kitchen spot if the cord reaches.

A window isn’t a requirement, it’s just easier. Mine sat behind the TV for a year and got the basics fine. If the kitchen is your only option, sure, try there first, but don’t assume the shelf is dead.

Shelf is fine if you just want the basics, but you’ll probably lose some channels compared to having it near glass. I ran mine on a bookshelf for a while and it picked up the main locals, that’s about it. If the kitchen is your only window, might as well try it there first and see what you get.

I’d rather keep the antenna in the room where I actually watch TV than stick it in the kitchen just because that’s where the window is. Mine lives on a dresser and it’s fine for the handful of channels I care about.
