Do the SonaBuds pick up background noise during calls?

The whole background noise thing really depends on where you are. I’ve seen people treat “noise cancellation” like it’s magic, but with these it’s mostly about the mics picking up your voice clearly, not silencing the world around you. If you’re on a train or a busy street, the person on the other end will still hear some of that rumble. It’s not like the SonaBuds turn your surroundings off.

What I noticed with mine is that they do a decent job in a moderately loud café, but the moment you get into heavy traffic or a crowded terminal, you might as well be holding the phone normally. The other person will still hear you, but they’ll hear the background too. So if your main concern is being in loud spaces, these aren’t going to fix that. They’re fine for a quiet room or a stroll, but don’t expect them to work like a dedicated call headset.

Used mine for a quick call while walking near a construction site and the person on the other end said they could hear me fine but that there was some rumbling in the background. If you’re the type to mumble or talk quietly, the earbuds seem to boost sensitivity and that’s when the background noise gets worse. When I speak up clearly, the person on the call hears less of the junk around me. Makes sense, the mic doesn’t have to work as hard to catch my voice.

I wouldn’t buy these expecting them to fix a noisy environment. They’re earbuds with microphones, not a soundproof booth. If your calls are mostly in decent conditions, you’ll be fine. If you’re planning to take calls while standing next to a jackhammer, save yourself the trouble and just reschedule the call.

Most of the noise complaints I see with these come from people expecting too much. It’s a tiny mic on a bud, not a podcast setup. Mine handles regular street noise fine, but if you’re standing next to a jackhammer, the person on the other end is gonna hear it. That’s just physics.
