MemberSo we got the Clima Pest Guard for the kitchen, figured it’d be better than sprays around the dog’s food. The thing works fine, no complaints there. But I’m wondering if the UV light or the zap could bother the dog if she gets too close. Anyone else use it near pets? I just don’t want to come home to a weird situation.

MemberI’d probably just move the bowl to another spot when the dog is eating and leave the trap running in the kitchen otherwise. The zap sound is pretty quick and not loud, but dogs are weird about stuff like that. My cat used to stare at the light but never actually got close enough to touch it.

MemberUV light is not something that’s gonna make your dog sit there staring at it like a bug zapper. Dogs don’t care about UV. The zap sound might get her attention the first couple times but after that they ignore it. I’ve had one running near my cat’s water bowl for months. Cat walks past it all the time. Never had an issue.
The bigger problem is if she knocks it over while it’s charging or something. That’s the only way I see it becoming a “weird situation.” They’re light enough that a clumsy dog could tip it. Just put it somewhere she can’t bump into it and you’re fine. The whole point of these things is not having poison spray around food. Don’t overthink it.

MemberI don’t have mine near the food anymore, but that’s only because my cat kept trying to nap next to it. The light doesn’t seem to bother them at all, and the occasional zap is so quick that they just look around for a second and go back to whatever they were doing. I think you’re fine leaving it where it is, the dog will probably ignore it completely after a day or two.

MemberWe keep ours in the hallway near the laundry room, not right by the bowls, but the cat definitely wanders over to it sometimes out of curiosity. She’s never gotten zapped or seemed bothered by the glow. If the dog is super nosy, maybe just watch her the first time it kicks on.
