Anyone else find the TrimZa filing surface wears down fast?

The wear on mine leveled off after the first couple of weeks. It definitely lost that brand new grit fast, but it stopped getting smoother once it hit a certain point, so it still works fine for what it is. I just don’t expect it to feel like a fresh emery board forever.

Mine did the same thing, but honestly I figured it was just the surface breaking in. The rough grit on the smoothing side is never going to stay like day one, that’s how these things are. I don’t press hard at all and it still lost that new feel after maybe two weeks of regular use. As long as it still gets the edge off, I’m not bothered.

Mine is still holding up fine after a couple months, honestly. I use it a few times a week and the smoothing side still feels like it does the job. Maybe I got lucky or maybe I just don’t press hard enough to wear it down.

The whole “wears down fast” thing kind of bugs me because people treat it like it’s a defect. I’d say it’s just how these things work. The surface is basically a fine grit and that grit is going to shed no matter what you do. Pressing harder probably makes it worse, but even normal use will do it.

I still use it mainly for the trimming part and then use the filing side just to knock off any sharp edges. It’s not doing heavy reshaping or anything, so the reduced grit doesn’t really matter for that.

I think if you’re expecting the filing surface to stay like day one forever, you’re going to be disappointed. It’s a consumable part of the tool. As long as it still smooths the edge enough, it’s doing its job.

Mine softened up too and honestly I figure that’s just what you get with these things. If it still trims the way you need it to, I’d just keep using it and stop overthinking it. You’re probably not pressing too hard. It’s just a cheap surface that does its job for a while.
