Upgrade my pillow or keep the old one?

Been using a cheap memory foam pillow on my office chair for about a year and still get neck stiffness after long work sessions. I keep seeing ergonomic neck pillows that promise better alignment but they cost more and feel like marketing. Not super picky, just wondering if the upgrade actually makes a noticeable difference or if it’s mostly minor. Anyone here swapped from a basic foam to a proper neck pillow and actually felt much better?

I think swapping to an ergonomic neck pillow helped me on long desk sessions, not a miracle but the nagging stiffness eased a bit. Small practical thing: get one that packs small, I keep mine on my office chair and toss it in my backpack for commutes.

An ergonomic neck pillow can help a little, but if you never fix posture or take breaks it’s like expecting your phone to run on a dead battery with no charger — the pillow alone won’t do the job.

Not totally sure, but probably a marginal upgrade for most people. Ergonomic shapes can actually help alignment so you might feel less stiffness after long sessions. Marketing blows it up though, don’t expect a miracle. Maybe only worth it if you can try one cheap or return it, otherwise your cheap foam might be fine.

Maybe not worth the extra cash unless your neck is already pretty bad. I think most people only notice small differences.

I disagree, I noticed less stiffness after switching to a contoured neck pillow so maybe it’s not just marketing. Not totally sure if it’s placebo, but I’d try one if your neck keeps bothering you.

Honestly I tried a contoured neck pillow and didn’t notice much improvement, could be placebo for others. The pricier ones felt firmer but my cheap foam seemed fine for day-to-day. I’d probably skip it unless you’re super sensitive to neck support.

I grabbed an ergonomic neck pillow a while back and it did reduce my end-of-day stiffness, but it wasn’t a miracle cure so I’m not totally sold on the hype. Maybe worth trying if returns are easy, but could also be partly placebo or from changing how I sit.

Thanks for the thoughts, I’ll stick with the cheap foam for now and try fixing my sitting habits first. If that doesn’t help I’ll consider upgrading later, not in a hurry.

I’d sort posture and chair setup first, then try an ergonomic pillow only if it still hurts. Could be a noticeable help for some, but don’t count on a miracle.

I ended up preferring a softer, flatter foam; it just felt more natural during long work sessions. Maybe contoured ones help others, I’m not totally sure.
