MemberLooking at the Aptofit but I can’t tell if it’s got its own GPS or if it just piggybacks off your phone. Anyone know if it logs stuff on its own or do you have to keep the app open? Not trying to carry my phone everywhere just to track a walk.

Laura CheckMemberI think it mostly piggybacks off the phone, but honestly mine logs steps and basic stuff on its own just fine. I don’t keep the app open and it still tracks walks without my phone nearby. Doesn’t seem like a big deal to me.

MemberI think it still needs the phone for GPS tracking if you want maps or distance, but the step counting and basic stuff seems to work on its own. I’ve left my phone at home a few times and it still logged my steps fine when I got back. Not totally sure about the whole glucose thing though, seems like overkill for a walk 😅

MemberPretty sure it needs the phone for GPS if you want actual maps or distance tracking. The step counting and basic stuff logs on the watch itself, but anything more detailed seems to rely on the app being connected. Not a huge deal for me personally.

MemberI think you kind of have to bring your phone if you want the GPS maps and all that. The watch tracks steps and heart rate on its own okay, but for distance on a walk, mine doesn’t seem to save it unless the app was connected at some point. Not totally sure if that’s just my model though.

Emma JarrisMemberI just leave my phone in the kitchen when I go for a walk and honestly the step tracking on the watch itself is fine for me. I dont really need the GPS maps anyway, I just like seeing my step count at the end of the day.

MemberHonestly, I don’t think it has its own GPS. I just use it for step counting around the house and it logs that fine without the phone nearby.

d4nielParticipantNo GPS on the watch. It’ll log steps and heart rate on its own, but if you want a map of your walk you need the phone with you. I just use mine for step counting around the house and it’s fine without the app open.

Mike in TXMemberFrom what I’ve seen, the Aptofit doesn’t have its own GPS. If you want distance or maps you’re tethered to the phone. Step counting works fine standalone though.

MemberKind of sounds like you need the phone if you want anything more than step counts. I wouldn’t overthink it though, most of these budget watches work the same way.

Emma ReadsMemberI think people are overcomplicating it a bit. I use mine without my phone all the time just for tracking steps and it does the job fine for me.

MemberI just use mine for basic step counting and it does that fine without the phone. Seems like a non-issue if you’re not needing maps.

JSmithParticipantFrom what I gathered before buying, it doesn’t have its own GPS. You’ll need the phone if you want a route map or distance tracking. It’ll log steps and heart rate on its own fine though.

Owen21MemberIt’s not a big deal honestly. The watch handles steps and basic health stuff fine on its own, you just lose the fancy mapping features without the phone. Kind of expected for the price range I think.
