MemberGot a ResQVac for the home kit and tried the suction on my hand just to see how it feels. It definitely pulls but I’m wondering if it’s actually strong enough to clear a real blockage? Not doubting it just curious if anyone here has had to use it for real or tested it on something more than skin.

MemberI get what you mean. I haven’t used mine on a real blockage either, but I figure if it can pull hard enough to leave a mark on my arm it’s probably doing something. I’d still rather have it and not need it than wonder during an actual emergency.

Lisa BassMemberI’d probably just trust that it does what it’s supposed to in an actual emergency. It’s not like I want to test it on anything more realistic anyway.

MemberI haven’t tested mine on anything serious either but I did let my brother try it on a piece of apple once and it definitely sucked it up into the chamber no problem. Not totally sure how that translates to a real blockage but it wasn’t weak at all.

LauTopMemberHonestly, I haven’t had to use mine on anything serious either. I just keep it in the kitchen drawer and hope I never need it. If it leaves a decent mark on skin, it’s probably doing something right.

MarkD87MemberI’d probably just keep it in the drawer and hope I never need to find out how strong it really is.

MemberI figure if it’s designed for choking emergencies it’s probably got enough pull for the job. Testing it on your hand is kind of like checking if a fire extinguisher sprays. I just keep mine in the cupboard and don’t overthink it.

LunaMemberI think if the suction is noticeable on your hand, it’s probably enough for what it’s meant for. I mean, choking blockages aren’t usually that deeply lodged, right? Seems like it’d work fine in the moment.

MemberI think it’s probably fine. If it pulls on your hand like that, it’s clearly got some suction going on. I wouldn’t overthink it too much.

Tom W98MemberI tested mine on a piece of bread once just to see and it pulled it right off the counter. Not exactly a throat, but the suction is there. I’d say it’s probably fine for what it’s designed to do.

MemberI think if you can feel it pulling on your hand, it’s probably got enough suction to do the job. I wouldn’t worry too much about testing it on something more realistic unless you really want to. It’s one of those things you just hope you never have to use for real.

Tom in NYCMemberIf the suction is noticeable on skin, it’s probably fine for most situations. A piece of bread off a counter is one thing, but I’d want to see it tested on something denser before I feel completely sure. Not like I’m planning to test it on myself, though.

MemberPeople way overthink this stuff. It’s a simple manual suction device, not a vacuum cleaner. If it’s built to clear an airway, it’s probably fine for that.

MemberGlad to hear people have actually used theirs in practice, that’s pretty reassuring. I’ll just leave mine in the kitchen drawer and hope I never need to find out for real. Thanks for the input.
