Looking at the Ryoko Pro but can’t figure out if you can just pop in your own SIM card or if it’s locked to whatever plan they sell with it. Anyone know?

I think you can use your own SIM in it, but the whole thing seems kind of geared around their own plan. Not totally sure if there’s any annoying locking going on though.

Pretty sure you can just put your own SIM in it, that’s what I do with mine. The slot is unlocked, no issues with different carriers. I never even bothered with their plan, just tossed in a travel SIM and it worked right away.

I just use my own SIM with it and it’s been fine. No issues with it locking up or anything. That built in plan they push seems like more of an option than a requirement.

It’s unlocked, you can use your own SIM. I wouldn’t expect the advertised speeds to hold up in real use though, mine was pretty average on battery life too.

I kept their plan for a while but switched to my own SIM later, just preferred having one less subscription to track.

I popped my own SIM in and it worked, but I wouldn’t call it a game changer. Feels like the whole thing is just a middleman for whatever network it grabs onto.

I just grabbed a local SIM when I was in Thailand and it worked fine, no tweaking needed. Way cheaper than messing with their data packs for a short trip.

You can use your own SIM, it’s not locked. I think the whole “locked to their plan” thing is just a misunderstanding.

It’s not locked, you can swap SIMs if you want. I think the built-in plan is just an option they push, not a requirement.

I think I’d probably just use my own SIM from the start. Less hassle than dealing with another account.

Not totally sure why people get confused about this, it’s not locked or anything. I think the included plan is just their way of making it feel like a complete package, but you can totally ignore it.

I’d just use my own SIM and skip their plan entirely. Works fine that way, no need to mess with another account.

It’s not locked. You can swap SIMs whenever you want. The built-in eSIM thing is just their upsell, nothing more.

I just use my own SIM in mine, no issues. Honestly didn’t even look at their plan when I got it.

Alright, thanks for the replies. Sounds like I can just use my own SIM and not overthink it. Good enough for me.
