MemberI’ve been using TrimZa for a few weeks and it’s fine for regular upkeep. The enclosed chamber catches most of the clippings, but I still notice some dust on the counter after I’m done. Is that just how it goes, or am I doing something wrong? Not a huge deal, just wondering if others have the same thing.

MemberI’ve been wondering the same thing actually, since I’m still deciding whether to get one. From what I can tell, a little dust on the counter sounds pretty normal for these things. The chamber can’t catch every tiny particle, especially the finer stuff.

MemberMine leaves a bit of dust too, mostly the finer stuff. I just wipe the counter after and keep going, hasn’t bothered me enough to change anything.

MemberMine misses more than I expected too, especially around the edges. I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong, the chamber just doesn’t catch everything no matter how careful I am. I keep a tissue under my hand while trimming now, catches the strays.

MemberWhen I first got mine, I assumed the enclosed chamber was going to be one of those things that just works, and I’d never see a speck of nail dust again. After a couple months of use, my take shifted a bit. It does grab the bulk of the clippings, and that’s the part that used to bug me most with regular clippers. The fine powdery stuff is a different story. Some of it settles around the opening or drifts onto whatever surface I’m working over.
I don’t think that means the chamber is broken or that you’re using it wrong. It just isn’t a sealed vacuum. If I’m trimming over a hard counter, I’ll lay a paper towel down first and fold it up after. That’s what I do now instead of expecting the device to handle every bit. It takes two seconds and saves me the wiping.
What changed for me was my expectation more than the product itself. Early on I figured it would be totally mess free. Now I see it as mess reducing. The big pieces stay contained, the dust doesn’t always. I still use it because it’s easier on my hands than clippers and the filing side is handy, but I stopped treating the chamber like it catches everything. If you’re getting most of the clippings and only a bit of dust escapes, that lines up with what I see.

MemberMine has actually been pretty solid about catching the dust. I’ve used it on my mom’s nails and my own for a couple months and the counter stays clean as long as I go slow and don’t angle it weird.

MemberThe fine dust is the real issue, not the clippings. Those chambers catch the bigger bits, but powder still escapes. Mine does the same and I just wipe it up.

MemberProbably just how it goes, mine does the same thing.

MemberI noticed the dust situation changes depending on what I trim. With my own nails it’s pretty contained, but when I do my mom’s thicker nails there’s definitely more powder that gets out. Not a ton, but enough that I keep a paper towel nearby. What I started doing is trimming over a small tray or just holding my hand lower over the counter so anything that escapes lands in one spot instead of spreading everywhere. Makes cleanup way quicker. So no, I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong. The chamber catches what it catches and the rest is just part of using it. Some days I get almost nothing on the counter, other days it’s a light dusting. Depends on the nails and how much I’m doing in one sitting.

Maria_BakesMemberI kind of disagree that it’s just something you have to live with. Mine doesn’t leave dust on the counter and I’ve had it for maybe four months now. What I noticed early on is that if I press down too hard while trimming, the nail kind of shatters a bit instead of cutting clean, and that’s when the fine stuff flies out. When I let the tool do the work and just guide it slowly, almost nothing escapes. So it might be more about technique than the chamber itself. Worth trying a lighter touch for a few sessions and see if the counter stays cleaner. Not saying it’s perfect, but mine definitely improved once I stopped forcing it.

EthanFreeMemberMine collects more than I expected, but I still find a little dust near the edge of the counter after using it. I think the finer stuff just floats out no matter what. Doesn’t really bother me since it’s easy to wipe up.

MemberI haven’t had that problem at all. A couple stray bits near the opening sometimes, but nothing I’d call dust on the counter. If you’re getting a visible layer after every use, something about how it’s sitting or how you’re holding it is probably off.
11 de October de 2026 at 13:31 #15364
Carla82MemberMine only holds the big chunks, powder goes everywhere.

MemberI get a little dust too, so I don’t think it’s just you. But I wouldn’t say that’s automatically how it’s supposed to be either, since some people here clearly get zero mess. Could just depend on the person’s nails.
11 de October de 2026 at 16:19 #15381Sophi86
MemberMine barely catches anything, so you’re doing better than me.

Dani MoonMemberI’ve had mine for about two months and I just accepted that a bit of powder ends up on the counter. Not because the thing is broken, but because I don’t think any of these enclosed trimmers are actually sealed tight. There’s always a gap somewhere, and fine dust finds it. What I’d do, and what I actually did, is stop fighting it and just trim over a small towel or a piece of paper towel. Takes two seconds, catches whatever gets out, and I don’t have to wipe down the counter every time. It’s not a product defect, it’s just physics.
The bigger thing I noticed is that the amount of dust depends a lot on how dry your nails are. Right after a shower or with damp nails, way less dust flies around because the nail doesn’t shatter into powder the same way. Dry nails, especially if you’ve been outside in cold air, basically turn to dust the second the file touches them. So if you’re trimming dry, that’s probably why you’re seeing more than you’d like.
I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong. These things just aren’t as clean as the marketing photos make them look, and honestly I don’t know why people expect them to be. A towel underneath solves it and costs nothing.

MemberI usually do my nails over a little tray I keep in the bathroom drawer, so any strays land in there instead of on the counter. Takes two seconds to dump out after. Not really a fix for the trimmer itself, just saves me wiping things down.
11 de October de 2026 at 20:23 #15409
Jenna LeeMemberI get a bit of dust too but only when I trim right after a shower. Dry nails seem to make less of a mess for me.
11 de October de 2026 at 21:40 #15417Jake Paul
MemberMine doesn’t leave dust at all, so I don’t buy that this is just normal. If stuff is landing on the counter, something’s off with how yours is seated or you got a weak unit.
11 de October de 2026 at 22:44 #15425Brooky
MemberFair enough, sounds like a bit of stray dust is just part of it for some of us. I’ll quit second-guessing my technique and just keep a cloth nearby. Appreciate all the input, good to know I’m not alone on this one.
