Zoe MatthewsMemberI’m considering the Qinux Dogitek but mainly want to use the beep as a recall cue. I’m not sure if the sound is loud enough for a dog to hear outdoors, or if it’s just a faint tone. For those who have it, does the beep actually get your dog’s attention without needing vibration? I’d rather not rely on the shock mode if I can avoid it. Just trying to figure out if the beep alone is practical.

Mike ReynoldsMemberThe beep is audible but it’s not some piercing whistle. If your dog already knows what the beep means, it works fine as a recall cue. If you’re expecting it to snap a distracted dog out of chasing something, that’s a different story.

MemberThe beep on mine is plenty loud outdoors, but volume isn’t really the issue. My dog ignores it if there’s anything more interesting around, and that’s with the beep paired to treats for weeks. Vibration is what actually cuts through, so if you’re set on beep only, expect it to be situational.

MemberIf I were you, I’d skip the beep-only plan and just get it. Mine listens to the beep fine at the park, but when he’s locked onto a squirrel it’s like the button doesn’t exist. The beep is loud, that’s not the problem. It’s more about whether your dog cares enough in the moment.

MemberI wouldn’t build a recall around a beep alone. Every dog I’ve seen tuned to one still needs a follow up when they blow it off, so the beep just becomes a warning sound. If you never want to touch vibration or stim, a whistle or your voice does the same job.

Mike RunnerMemberThe beep is loud enough, that part works. But calling it a “recall cue” is a stretch if your dog isn’t already trained to come back. Mine hears it fine and still takes his sweet time.

MemberThe beep is audible for sure, but I think the bigger factor is whether your dog has actually been conditioned to respond to it. I’ve had a similar collar for about six months and used the tone as my main cue instead of the vibration. It took a few weeks of pairing the beep with treats and praise before my dog connected the dots. Now he perks up when he hears it even from across the yard. That said, I don’t think any beep alone is going to override a squirrel or another dog. The tone gets attention, but the follow through is on you. If you’re consistent with it, it works. If you just press it randomly and expect the dog to come running, that’s not going to happen with any collar.

MemberMine hears it just fine from across the yard.

MemberMine picked up the beep pretty quick, but I did a few short sessions in the house first before ever trying it outside. The tone itself is fine, it’s more about whether the dog has connected it to anything yet.

Linda RobinsonMemberIf your dog already knows what the beep means, it works fine. Mine responds to it from maybe 30 yards in the yard, but not when she’s chasing something. The beep gets attention, it doesn’t create the recall.

MemberThe beep alone is not what makes a recall work, it’s the training behind it. I’ve seen people rely on beep mode and their dogs just ignore it once there’s something better to chase. If you haven’t built that association solid, the beep is basically background noise.

MemberI don’t really buy the beep being a reliable recall on its own. My old collar had a similar tone and my dog heard it but just didn’t care enough to come back. I mostly use vibration now since it gets a reaction without the shock, and I prefer that over relying on sound.

MemberBeep works if your dog already knows it.

Zoe MatthewsMemberBeep didn’t do anything for my dog, so I gave up on it.
