Thinking about getting a TrimZa but not sure if it’s worth it for just basic nail trimming. I usually use clippers but they leave rough edges and I hate filing after. Does the TrimZa actually handle both in one go, or am I better off sticking with what I have? Not looking for anything fancy, just something that works without a hassle.

Mine sits in a drawer now. The smoothing part was okay but it took way longer than just clipping and doing a quick swipe with a file. If you really hate filing maybe it’s fine, but it wasn’t faster for me.

I’d stick with clippers and just get a decent file. The TrimZa sounds convenient until you’re charging it and going slow on every nail. For basic upkeep that’s more hassle, not less.

The smoothing part is what makes it worth considering if rough edges bother you. My sister has one and her nails always look neat without any extra filing step, which is the whole point. Whether that matters enough for the price is up to you.

I got one mostly because my hands cramp up holding regular clippers, and that part has been genuinely nice. The trimming itself is fine, nothing magical, but it does leave the edges way less jagged than clippers do in my case. I still run a file over them sometimes out of habit, but it’s not the mandatory chore it used to be. The tradeoff is it’s slower. Like noticeably slower if you’re doing all ten nails. So if speed matters to you, that could get annoying. For me it’s a fair trade since I’m not in a rush and my grip isn’t great anyway. If your hands are fine and you just want quick trims, I don’t know that it solves a problem you actually have.

Not sure I’d call it the same thing as clipping. From what I’ve seen, it kind of shaves the nail down instead of taking a clean chunk off, so if your nails grow fast you’re sitting there running it back and forth for a while. The smoothing is the part that actually works, the edge does come out pretty clean. But that’s also the thing you can get from a two dollar file. If the rough edges are the only reason you’re looking at it, I’d just grab a decent file and call it a day. The all in one thing is convenient in theory, in practice you still have to go slow and be patient. It’s not a quick swap for clippers.

If rough edges are what bug you, it does the job. I use mine a couple times a week and never touch a file after. That alone makes it worth it for basic upkeep.

I wouldn’t bother for basic upkeep. Mine trims fine but it’s not faster than clippers, so you’re just adding a charging routine for edges you could knock down with a file in ten seconds.

Mine gets used on two people and a dog in this house, so it’s earned its spot on the counter. The edges come out smooth enough that I stopped keeping a file nearby. I couldn’t tell you how the battery holds up after a year, but so far so good.

If you just want something that trims and smooths in one go, that’s basically what it does. I still keep a regular clipper in the drawer for thicker nails, but for weekly upkeep mine handles it fine without any filing after.

I think it depends what kind of “rough edges” bother you. Mine never left my nails snaggy or anything, but I still run a quick swipe with a buffer because I like them really smooth. If your main annoyance is having to file after clippers, this does cut that step out for the most part. I keep mine in a drawer and use it maybe once a week, and it’s been fine for basic upkeep. It’s not some huge upgrade over clippers though, so I get why some people wouldn’t bother. I’m not sure how it’d hold up if you let your nails get really long between trims, since I usually stay on top of mine.

I’d skip it for basic upkeep. Mine sat in a drawer after two weeks because pulling it out and charging it felt like more work than a quick clip and file.

I don’t think it’s worth it for basic upkeep. The whole point of clippers is they’re fast, and this thing trades that for edges you could’ve just filed down in ten seconds. Mine ended up being more fuss than it was worth.

I don’t buy the “rough edges” thing being a reason to switch honestly. Clippers leave a little snag sometimes, sure, but a cheap file takes like ten seconds. Adding a charging routine just to avoid that feels backwards to me.

Mine handles both fine, still not worth it.
