I’m thinking about picking up the Wood Ranger Power Leaf Blower for my carport since it gets dusty and has leaves blowing in. Does it work okay for that kind of light cleanup? I don’t need anything heavy duty, just something to keep it tidy. Anyone use it for similar stuff?

A leaf blower for a dusty carport is overkill in my opinion. You’ll just kick up half the dust into the air and it settles right back down. A broom and a hose handle that kind of mess better.

Fine for light dust, less so for wet leaves.

Mine mostly just pushes the dust around into piles instead of getting rid of it. The leaves are fine but the fine dirt is a pain. I still use it though, beats sweeping the whole thing by hand.

Probably fine for leaves but I wouldn’t expect much on fine dust. My neighbor has one and it just scatters the light stuff around more than anything. For a carport you’re better off with a broom and a hose.

For a carport I think it does the job fine. I use mine on the garage floor and around the back steps, and it handles dry leaves and general grit without much fuss. Battery only lasts about 15 minutes but that’s usually enough for a quick pass.

I actually prefer using mine on the carport over dragging out a broom, way faster for me. The dust part depends on how much is caked on there, but for loose stuff it does fine. Just keep in mind you’ll still get some floating around, so I usually do it before I sweep the rest.

I don’t buy the whole “it just kicks dust around” thing as a dealbreaker. Sure, if you blast dry dust with any blower it’s going to float. That’s not the tool being useless, that’s just how air works. I’ve got a similar cordless blower and I use it on my screened porch and the concrete pad out back. If you’re smart about it and use the lower speed instead of holding the trigger down like an idiot, the dust actually moves off the edge and stays gone. The people complaining are probably running it wide open and wondering why everything flies up. For a carport with light leaves and normal dust, it’s fine. It’s not going to deep clean caked-on grime, but nobody claimed that. My only real gripe is the battery, 15 minutes goes fast if you’re messing around. So don’t expect to do the whole property on one charge. For a quick tidy up it does the job.

I grab mine for the carport more than I expected, mostly because it reaches behind the recycling bins where a broom is annoying. Takes me about five minutes to do the whole area and the battery still has some left after. The leaves are the easy part honestly.

Mine only comes out for the car honestly.

Mine sits in the closet more than I’d like. The battery only gives me about 10-15 minutes of real use so by the time I get going it’s already fading. For a quick pass it’s fine but I wouldn’t count on it for a whole carport cleanout.

I went in thinking it’d be a gimmick and end up in a drawer. That was about four months ago. It hasn’t gone in a drawer yet, but my opinion on what it’s actually for has shifted a fair bit.

The dust part is what changed my mind, not the leaves. I figured a blower would just launch the dust into the air and I’d be standing in a cloud of it. That’s sort of true if you go wide open, but feathering the trigger low actually pushes it along the ground and out the opening instead of up into your face. Took me a couple tries to figure that out. Now it’s the thing I grab when the carport has that grey film all over it after a dry stretch.

Where I cooled off is the leaf side. Anything loose and dry, fine. Anything that’s been sitting damp against the wall or matted into a corner, it just skates over the top and looks at me. That’s a rake job and I’m not pretending otherwise. So I stopped thinking of it as a leaf tool and started thinking of it as a dust and light crud tool that happens to move a few leaves too.

Would I buy it again. Probably, but I’d stop expecting it to replace anything. It’s an extra thing that’s handy maybe once a week. If you want it to be the only thing, you’ll be annoyed.

Works fine for light carport dust in my experience.

A broom still beats it for actual dust.

I don’t think it’s the right tool for that. Dust just gets blown around and settles again a few hours later, so you end up chasing your own tail. Mine mostly just pushes the dirt into the corners.

For a carport I think it’s fine, that’s pretty much the light stuff these are made for. My neighbor uses his for the same kind of thing and doesn’t seem to have any trouble with it.

I actually disagree with the broom comment. I’ve used a little handheld blower on my screened porch and it handled the light dust way faster than sweeping ever did. You just have to go slow and not blast everything at once. For a carport I think you’d be fine.

Light cleanup around a carport is exactly the kind of thing it handles. Mine mostly gets used for blowing off the back step and around the grill, and it’s quick for that. It won’t replace a rake or anything, but for keeping a small area tidy it does the job.
