TopCarPlay with USB hub?

Mine’s been running through a cheap powered hub for about four months now and the wireless side hasn’t skipped a beat. I keep the adapter tucked in the console and charge my wife’s phone off the same hub on road trips. Zero dropouts so far, so I’d say go for it.

I’ve had mine on a hub for a while and honestly the wireless part never cared. What got me was the car side. My head unit would act like the adapter vanished for a second when I plugged something into the other port, screen would blink and then come back. Didn’t drop the phone pairing, just a little hiccup on startup.

I ended up moving the hub to the console outlet instead of the dash one, mostly because of cable clutter, and that blink basically stopped. No idea if it was the port or just dumb luck.

The other thing is heat. With two things drawing off the same spot the adapter got noticeably warmer to the touch. Still worked, but I noticed it. So it’s less about the wireless connection and more about how your car handles the power split. Some cars are fine, some get moody.

I use a hub with mine and it’s been totally fine, wireless still connects every time I get in the car. The only thing I noticed is the adapter sometimes takes a couple extra seconds to boot up compared to plugging it straight in. Other than that, no complaints at all.

A hub is fine for keeping it powered, but don’t expect the second port to charge anything fast. Mine handles both, just slowly.
