MemberI had one of those old red suction things before and the mask felt kind of stiff. Just got a ResQVac and the mask seems softer. Is it just me or does it fit differently on adults? I haven’t tried it on anyone yet, just checking before I stash it in the kitchen.

StanMemberI noticed the softer feel too. The old red one always felt like it was pressing hard around the face, more like a rigid cup. The ResQVac mask has a little more give, so it sits closer without that stiff edge digging in. I keep mine in my carry on since I fly a lot and it barely takes up space. I tried the adult mask on myself once just to see how it sits and it sealed fine around the mouth and nose. Didn’t actually use it on anyone yet though, so I can’t say how it behaves in a real situation. But just comparing the feel, the newer one is definitely less awkward against the face than the old style.

MemberThey do fit differently. I used the adult mask on my father in law during a scare last month and it sealed around his face way easier than the old red one ever did. Softer edge makes a real difference when you’re actually pushing it down.

MemberSofter for sure, but it sealed fine on my wife.

MemberThe old red mask always left those deep marks on my face. This one doesn’t dig in the same way, so I get why it feels different. I only messed with the adult size once and it sat fine without me having to fight it into place.

Kevin CMemberMine came with the adult and child masks and the adult one seals better on me than the old red cup ever did. The rim is thinner so it sort of molds instead of sitting flat. Worth testing the fit on yourself once before you stash it.

MemberThe softer rim is the main thing I noticed too. Mine’s still in the box by the fridge, so I haven’t actually tried it on anyone yet either. I keep meaning to pull it out and at least see how the adult mask sits on my husband before I forget how it goes.

MemberThe mask on mine definitely feels less stiff than the old red style. I tried the adult one on myself for a second and it sat a lot easier around the jaw. Can’t say how it does on someone actually choking since I haven’t had to use it, but just wearing it felt way less awkward.

MemberI have both sizes sitting in my cabinet and the adult one actually feels flimsy to me compared to the old red cup, so I keep second-guessing if I placed it right. The child mask is the one that surprised me, it sits way more secure than I expected.

MemberMine actually feels firmer than I expected, so I’m not sure the softness is the whole story. The old red one I had was stiff but it also had a rounder shape that kind of sat on my face instead of around my mouth. The ResQVac adult mask is wider and flatter, so on me it doesn’t feel softer so much as just shaped different. Almost like it’s meant to cover more area. I tried it on myself once and it sat fine, but my brother has a narrower face and he said it felt loose around the edges compared to the old style. So maybe it’s less about soft versus stiff and more about which face shape it happens to match. I still tossed it in the kitchen drawer since it’s compact, but I’m not assuming it’ll feel the same on everyone who tries it.

MemberI went back and forth on mine for a while. When it first arrived I thought the mask felt too soft, like it might not hold a seal if someone was really panicking. So it sat on the shelf for a couple months and I kept the old red one in the same drawer as a backup, which is not really how you’re supposed to treat an emergency device.
What changed my mind was reading the instructions properly one night when I couldn’t sleep. The mask isn’t meant to sit on a face like a cup. You place it, it conforms a bit, then you push and pull. That’s a different job than what I was picturing. Once I understood that, the softer rim made more sense to me. It’s not flimsy, it’s just doing something else.
The practical detail that convinced me: I tried the adult mask on myself and got a decent seal just by leaning forward slightly and holding it with both hands. The old one I always had to press hard to get anywhere close. That told me more than squeezing the rim with my fingers ever did.
So my opinion shifted from “this feels cheaper” to “this feels different on purpose.” I still have the red one tucked away but I don’t reach for it first anymore.

Emma JarrisMemberI actually think the old red one fit me better. The new mask feels kind of squishy on my face, like it doesn’t want to stay put when I press down. I’ve only had mine a few weeks though so maybe I just need to get used to it.

MemberAppreciate all the input. I actually opened mine up and tried the adult mask on myself for a sec, and it sat fine, so I’m just gonna leave it in the kitchen drawer and not overthink it.
