I’m thinking about getting a Clima Pest Guard but my room isn’t pitch black at night. There’s usually a little light from a hallway or streetlamp coming in. Will that stop the UV light from attracting bugs? Just wondering if I need total darkness for it to work well.

Mine pulls in bugs fine with a bit of ambient light, so I don’t think pitch black is a requirement. I’ve used it in hotel rooms where light leaks under the curtains and it still caught stuff.

I don’t think pitch black is necessary at all. Mine sits near a window with light coming through and it still catches stuff. The UV is just meant to stand out against whatever else is around, not be the only thing in the room. I’d say go ahead and use it.

A little light in the room shouldn’t be a dealbreaker. I’ve noticed the bugs still go for the trap even when there’s some glow coming from elsewhere, and honestly the UV seems to stand out enough on its own. The main thing that can mess with it is having a competing light source right next to the trap, like a lamp on the same table. If the hallway light is off to the side, that’s a different story. I’ve had nights where the room wasn’t dark at all and it still did its job. So no, you don’t need to tape up the windows or anything. Just keep it away from other bright lights and let it run.

I’m still deciding on one myself, but the darkness thing is what keeps tripping me up too. My sister runs hers in a room with a nightlight and it still catches mosquitoes, so total pitch black doesn’t sound mandatory. The bug draw just seems weaker when there’s a lot of other light competing.

I’ve had mine going for a few weeks now and my place is never fully dark either. The bulb in my kitchen hood stays on overnight and the trap still fills up, so I really don’t think you need blackout conditions for it to pull bugs in.

I had mine in a room with a TV on most nights and it still caught plenty. The UV doesn’t need total darkness to pull bugs in, it just competes with other light sources. If you already have ambient light, it’ll still work, just maybe not as strongly.

I think a little ambient light is fine. Mine only really pulls in a ton when the room is mostly dark, but it still catches some with light coming in. Total darkness probably helps, but it’s not like it stops working otherwise.

A bit of ambient light from a hallway or streetlamp isn’t going to kill the UV pull. The trap only cares about being the brightest thing nearby, not the only thing glowing. Total darkness helps but it’s not a requirement.
